Man United: Solskjaer would cost 'peanuts' says expert
Manchester United chief Woodward turned to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month after choosing to pull the trigger on Jose Mourinho’s Old Trafford reign.
The 45-year-old’s appointment last month came as a surprise - even if Mourinho’s sacking did not.
As the dust started to settle on Jose Mourinho’s turbulent Manchester United reign, links to Laurent Blanc and Michael Carrick as interim manager started to do the rounds.
Blanc was available, having spent the last two years out of work. Carrick, as one of Mourinho’s coaches, was a natural guess.
But Solskjaer got the job in a surprising twist with the Norwegian since enjoying a stunning start.
Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri remain under consideration to succeed Mourinho on a permanent basis.
But the Evening Standard say United and Woodward never imagined Solskjaer making such a strong case for himself.
At the time, the former United hitman was seen as a safety blanket.
A man whose sole job is to bring some of the old sparkle back. A man who was there to keep the seat warm.
But that, however, has now changed.

The Evening Standard say United have been wowed by Solskjaer’s start - with the former Red Devils striker in no mood to give the job up.
Sunday’s win over Pochettino’s Tottenham appears to be significant.
Fresh reports have claimed United’s players are fully behind Solskjaer taking the job beyond the end of the season.
Whether he can land the role full-time, though, remains to be seen.
Solskjaer has coaxed the best from many United players - with Paul Pogba among the standout names.
And Pogba is loving life under the 45-year-old, having struggled during the final months of Mourinho’s tenure.
