Chelsea transfer news: David Luiz’s agent issues statement amid Benfica claims
CHELSEA defender David Luiz wants to stay at the club despite rumours he is on his way out of Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea: David Luiz admits he stayed at the club for Sarri
Luiz’s current deal expires in the summer and some reports have linked the Brazilian with a move to Benfica.
Luiz has been a key figure under Maurizio Sarri this season, starting all-but-one of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures.
He is free to talk to foreign clubs as he is in the final six months of his deal with the Blues with Sarri previously speaking of his eagerness for Chelsea to have Luiz a new contract.
And Luiz’s agent Kia Joorabchian has now revealed the defender is keen to remain at the club.
"Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea,” Joorabchian told The Sun.
"We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club.
"I'm sure something will be worked out."
Chelsea have been busy during the January transfer window, signing Christian Pulisic and selling Cesc Fabregas.
Pulisic has been brought from Borussia Dortmund though will remain with the club on loan until the end of the season.
Fabregas joined Monaco at the end of last week having struggled to impress Sarri.
But the Italian admits he needs a replacement for the former Arsenal midfielder, though is unsure if he will get one.
"Today Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn't a player for that position so I need a player for that position," Sarri said following Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.
"I have no idea [if we will sign a replacement].
"The club knows very well my opinion. I need a player there so it depends on the club's decision.
"I cannot do any more."
Chelsea’s next game sees them visit Arsenal on Saturday (5.30pm).
