Andy Gray reveals huge clue Mauricio Pochettino will REJECT Man Utd and stay at Tottenham
TOTTENHAM’s star players would not have signed new contracts at the club if they thought Mauricio Pochettino would jump ship and move to Manchester United.
Pochettino: Andy Gray reveals reason he will stay at Tottenham
That is the opinion of former Wolves, Aston Villa and Scotland striker Andy Gray
Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to replace Jose Mourinho as the next permanent Manchester United manager.
But Gray is not convinced the Argentine would want to take the Old Trafford job.
Pochettino has recently claimed he would like to remain at Spurs for 20 years.
I cannot believe Harry Kane and Dele Alli would have committed themselves to five-year deals there if they thought he was going to go
That is something Gray’s beIN SPORTS colleague Richard Keys cannot see him doing.
But Gray reckons Pochettino would want to try and emulate legendary Manchester United and Arsenal bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
And he believes a big clue in that is the recent extension in contracts of star players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
“Because it’s Manchester United,” Gray said on why Pochettino may join United.
“[But] do you not believe him when he says ‘I want to be here 20 years’?
“Why wouldn’t he want to do what Fergie did? Why wouldn’t he want to do what Wenger did? Create something.
“We thought that [no manager would do that again] about Fergie but Wenger did.
“Normally we would say if Manchester United or Real Madrid came calling ‘sorry Spurs, you haven’t got a chance, he’s gone, if he wants to, he’s gone’.
“I don’t know with him, I really don’t.
“I cannot believe Harry Kane and Dele Alli and these people would have committed themselves to five-year deals there if they thought he was going to go. I can’t.”
