Mauricio Pochettino will only leave Tottenham for Man Utd for ONE reason - Niko Kranjcar
MAURICIO POCHETTINO will only quit Tottenham for Manchester United for one reason - history.
Pochettino would only move to Man Utd for the name says pundit
That is the opinion of ex-Tottenham and Croatia midfielder Niko Kranjcar.
Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to become the next permanent Manchester United manager.
But Krancjar says the Argentine would not be going to Old Trafford for football reasons.
United are currently three places and 10 points behind Spurs in the Premier League table and Kranjcar reckons his former side have the better players.
History maybe, the size of the name, Manchester United
But he admits the history of United and the size of the club could sway Pochettino’s decision.
“Spurs [have the better players],” he said on beIN SPORTS.
“I do believe so. They’ve been together three years and three seasons and they’ve proved themselves.
“And I think this season especially they have been tremendous. Bar the loss in December to Wolves, they would have been right up there.
“Now they’re in the title race and that without signing a big-name player over the summer.
“[Pochettino would leave because of] history maybe, the size of the name, Manchester United.”
Tottenham did not spend a penny in the transfer market last summer and are yet to bring any new faces in this month.
And Kranjcar says the Spurs board will have to back their boss to keep him happy.
“I think he’s in a great position at Spurs,” he added.
“I think coming from the funds for the new stadium, I think he will get better players, even more money to spend in the summer transfer window.
“He’s transformed the club over the last four or five years. So I think he’s in the position now to take it to the next step.
“If the club listens to him and says ‘okay, we want to build on what we’ve succeeded in the next couple of years, we want to start challenging for the title on a regular basis’.
“I think that’s going to be something very interesting for him. It would be something that hasn’t been done before in the Premier League.
“It depends on his talk with the board. If he’s going to get funds to invest and get new players in positions he sees he needs to strengthen and then go toe-to-toe with Liverpool and Man City, I think he’s going to stay.”
Pochettino's Tottenham take on United on Sunday in the Premier League at Wembley (4.30pm).
