Arsenal transfer news: ‘It’s killing me’ - former Gunner Paul Mariner fumes at Unai Emery
ARSENAL’s decision to let Aaron Ramsey leave the club for free is “madness” and Unai Emery should be picking the Welshman in his starting XI week in, week out.
Aaron Ramsey situation is 'killing me' says Paul Mariner
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Arsenal and England striker Paul Mariner.
Ramsey is set to join Serie A giants Juventus after agreeing a five-year, £36million deal.
The midfielder will have his medical this weekend and officially become a Juve player upon the expiry of his Arsenal contract in the summer.
Arsenal withdrew their contract offer to Ramsey earlier this season and are willing to allow him to go without receiving a fee.
It doesn’t make any sense to me by the Arsenal why they’re doing this
Mariner cannot understand the decision from his old club, claiming Aaron Ramsey is joining the favourites for the Champions League.
And he also thinks the 28-year-old deserves to be starting regularly under Emery.
“He should be playing, he should be playing, it’s as simple as that,” Mariner said.
“He’s playing [Matteo] Guendouzi who’s going to be a good player but he’s not ready yet.
“You’ve got [Lucas] Torreira who’s fantastic, put Ramsey alongside Torreira and you’ve got something going on.
“Some of the decisions that the club have made are puzzling.
“You talk about [Alexis] Sanchez going for nothing to Manchester United.
“Now Ramsey is going to, in my opinion, probably one of the favourites for the Champions League. He’s just going to slot in there for fun.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me by the Arsenal why they’re doing this.
“He’d be foolish not to sign the deal - £7.2m for five years per year, thanks for coming, give me the pen. It’s madness.
“Arsenal now are going to have to go out and by £50-60m to replace him. He’s in the building, he’s a top player.
“It’s killing me honestly, I love this kid.”
