Arsenal line up member of 2004 Invincibles team to help Unai Emery as director of football
ARSENAL are lining up Edu as their director of football to help Unai Emery in the transfer market, according to reports.
Arsenal hero Edu was part of the team that went 49 Premier League games unbeaten between 2003 and 2004.
The Brazilian was a popular figure during his time in north London, and provided some memorable moments before leaving for La Liga giants Valencia in 2005.
Arsenal are keen to appoint a director of football to assist Emery when it comes to dealings in the transfer market.
And the Evening Standard claim the north London giants are considering Edu to take the job.
Arsenal want to continue their restructuring in the aftermath of Arsene Wenger’s exit.
Wenger left the club back in May and, in the time since, the have also seen Ivan Gazidis jump ship to AC Milan.
Arsenal have Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment.
And the Evening Standard say it is unclear whether he would be above or work alongside a director of football.
But Arsenal feel another addition is required either way.
Edu has had quite the career since retiring at Corinthians.
He took the job as director of football with the Brazilian team, before becoming technical director of the Samba side’s national team.
Arsenal are said to have made contact with Edu.

But it remains to be seen whether he will head back to the club.
Emery, meanwhile, is said to be relaxed over the prospect of Edu coming in.
He is hopeful of securing the signing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona this month.
And that deal is not dependant on Aaron Ramsey’s future, with Emery also keen to retain the Wales international despite his contract expiring in the summer.
