Chelsea transfer news: Liverpool won't be scared of 'bizarre' new signing - Stan Collymore
CHELSEA's £58million signing of Christian Pulisic is 'bizarre', according to ex-Premier League star Stan Collymore.
Christian Pulisic: I want to be known as a leader
Collymore can't work out why Chelsea have paid Borussia Dortmund such a large fee when they have plenty of talent on their books already.
Callum Hudson-Odoi helped England win the Under-17 World Cup but he wants to leave to join Bayern Munich.
Pulisic will make the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer but Collymore doesn't think Liverpool or Manchester City will be looking at the deal with envy,
"Chelsea's signing of Christian Pulisic is bizarre," he told the People.
"I mean, why spend £58million on him rather than progressing the talent they've already got?
"Yes, he's a very good technical footballer, he's very easy on the eye, and he comes with the added bonus of potentially being the first acknowledged world-class superstar from the US.
"But if he was Slovakian, Irish or Slovenian, I'm not sure Chelsea would have gone for him.
"And I don't think Manchester City or Liverpool will be quaking in their boots, either.
"All in a week when Callum Hudson-Odoi is targeted by Bayern Munich.
"I just don't see where the business sense lies in spending sums like that at the same time as selling young players, just as they did with Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne, without giving them an extended chance."
Express Sport understands Chelsea are now looking finalise a £45m deal for Cagliari's international midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Like they did with Pulisic, Chelsea will agree a deal for Barella, 21, seen as one of the best talents in Italy, and he will move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
