Goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane saw off the Reds and inflicted their first league defeat of the season.
Liverpool remain favourites with the bookies to win their first title since 1990.
I’m going to go with Liverpool because I tipped them from the start. So I hope they can do it
Wright admits reigning champions City will push Jurgen Klopp’s side all the way.
But he expects, and wants, Liverpool to get the job done in the final 17 games of the campaign.
When asked who he thinks will win the league, Wright said: “Liverpool.
"I’ll go with Liverpool.
“I tipped Liverpool from the start and I’m going to continue to go with Liverpool.
“I think that Manchester City are a magnificent team and I think they are going to push Liverpool all the way.
“You’d expect them to do that because they’re trying to retain the Premier League which hasn’t been done for many, many years.
“You have to give them the credit for winning that game last night because they had to.
“But I’m going to go with Liverpool because, 29 years, I know there is a lot of weight of expectation on them and pressure.
“But I think that Liverpool can do it and I’m going to go with Liverpool because I tipped them from the start.
“So I hope they can do it.”
City and Liverpool take a break from league action this weekend as they enter the FA Cup at the third round stage.
City host Rotherham on Sunday, with Liverpool visiting Wolves on Monday.
