Mourinho was given the chop in a face-to-face meeting with Ed Woodward on Tuesday morning, having spent two-and-a-half years in the hot-seat.
And now Solskjaer has taken the reins and will oversee his first training session at the club’s Carrington base.
The 45-year-old was spotted being driven into the complex in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Solskjaer has already taken a leaf out of Mourinho’s book by catching a lift to work in a hire car.
The former United boss never put down roots in Manchester, living in the Lowry Hotel and being chauffeured to training by club staff every morning.
The Portuguese boss was widely criticised for seemingly failing to commit to the area, instead racking up a bill of over £500,000 in the city centre establishment.
Solskjaer is only expected to remain in charge until the end of the season when a permanent manager will be appointed, with the Old Trafford hero set to return to his position in charge of Norwegian outfit Molde.
Therefore, it could be a regular occurrence to see the new boss being driven to work if he opts not to buy or rent a car of his own.
Michael Carrick was also seen arriving at the training ground early, while the United squad are due to meet up with their new gaffer this morning.
Attention will then turn to Saturday’s Premier League clash with Cardiff when Solskjaer is due to take charge for the first time against his former club.
