Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho swipe aimed after Red Devils draw PSG in Champions League
JOSE MOURINHO knows all the ‘tricks’, but the Manchester United boss could be outfoxed by his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart Thomas Tuchel, because the German has a more solid relationship with his players.
That is the damning verdict of Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus, who has been previewing the Champions League last-16 ties.
The draw was made on Monday and threw up a number of fascinating encounters, including Liverpool vs Bayern and Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund.
Mourinho’s problems at United have been well documented this season and the Portuguese tactician suffered a galling 3-1 defeat away to Liverpool last Sunday.
Speculation has intensified over whether Mourinho will survive the Christmas period such has been United’s dismal displays this term.
Over in France, Tuchel is enjoying a fabulous campaign and with the lethal duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, his side are 10 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
And Matthaus reckons Tuchel can turn over United, simply because he understands his players better than Mourinho does.
“The one German I am confident will have success is Thomas [Tuchel],” Matthaus wrote in his column for The Sun.
“Paris Saint-Germain are more focused and disciplined than in the past two or three years.
Can he change that? Maybe he just doesn’t like working with superstars
“That is down to boss Tuchel. He has altered the way PSG approach matches and prepared them for the Champions League.
“Jose Mourinho knows how to prepare for these games.
“He provokes the referees, the other team, the media. He knows all the tricks.
“But the Manchester United manager is clearly not happy with what he has seen, especially from Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.
“Can he change that? Maybe he just doesn’t like working with superstars.
“Tuchel has put more character into this side and connected with his players. The team now comes first.
“Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are special talents, too. They believe they can make their dream come true.”
