What former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has said may anger every Spurs fan
FORMER Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood says his old club aren't title challengers.
Mauricio Pochettino revealed he was unhappy this week that the Premier League title race is perceived as only being between Liverpool and Manchester City.
Liverpool are top on 42 points, a point clear of Manchester City, with Spurs five points back after making one of their best-ever starts to a Premier League campaign.
But Sherwood says they can't win the title - because City have it wrapped up.
"I was surprised Mauricio said that because he's been playing it down for a number of years now, saying we're on a different project here at Tottenham - they absolutely are," Sherwood told The Debate show.
"But when you look through the side, the likes of Lloris, Trippier, Rose, Harry Kane, Eriksen, Moura who comes off the bench and sometimes starts, Son, they can play in the top-four teams.
"You could pretty much put them up for sale and they would go for big, big money to probably the best teams in Europe.
"The only reason they aren't title contenders in my opinion is because I've got such a soft spot for Man City and I think they are far and above everyone else.
"They are actually spoiling the Premier League for everyone else.
"I love watching them. They're doing them the right way - even though they spent all the money, they are actually proving why they spent that.
"They are actually entertainers, they deserve all the credit that they get.
"Take Man City out of it, Tottenham for me, along with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, are title contenders but they're not - because Man City are there."
Spurs booked a spot in the Champions League knockout stages this week after drawing with Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
They return to Premier League action against Burnley today.
