Arsenal FAVOURITES to sign Lyon star who was convinced to SNUB Liverpool
ARSENAL are keen to sign Lyon star Houssem Aouar - two years after he was told not to join Liverpool.
Liverpool target Houssem Aouar scores incredible goal
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is on the lookout for new talent in the January transfer window.
The Gunners boss is tasked with haling Arsenal back into the Champions League spots this season.
Emery refrained from spending big in the summer but could be handed cash for a January splurge.
And France Football claim Houssem Aouar is on the manager’s agenda.
According to the magazine France Football, Emery is a fan of Aouar - and crucially the boss eyes him as a worthy replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
Aouar is open to working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City but the Premier League champions appear to have other targets on their wish list.
And Aouar was contacted by Liverpool TWO YEARS AGO.
The Reds approached Lyon over a proposed transfer but were knocked back after manager Bruno Genesio and Aouar’s family convinced the player to stay.
Aouar, 20, graduated to the Lyon first team in 2017 and 21 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season.
He is supposedly valued at around £35m and had Borussia Dortmund tracking him before the season kicked off.
Aouar only signed a new contract with Lyon in July - a move the French club thought would end speculation over the player’s future.
But his suitors appear willing to meet his valuation despite the five-year contract effectively giving Lyon freedom to reject approaches.
Lyon play at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday knowing a win or draw will secure safe passage to the knockout stages of the competition.
