But they failed to secure a win that could have seen them rise above Celtic.
And ex-Aberdeen star Miller was not impressed.
“Rangers could have gone top of the table and they weren't good enough to take that chance,” he said on BBC Radio Scotland.
“Dundee made it really difficult for them but they still should have been able to find a way past them to get to that prize of hitting the top of the table, and they simply didn’t.”

Gerrard had warned before kick off that Rangers could not afford to be complacent against relegation-threatened Dundee.
And the boss expressed his disappointment at full time.
“I am more surprised than frustrated and I am really shocked and surprised at what I am seeing,” he said.
“Seven days ago, we got a fantastic result against Hearts and then, none of the players looked like the players that were with us seven days ago.

“I don’t think I have to go away and analyse it as I know and I have just seen it with my own eyes. We just did everything wrong again and these players don’t look like the players I was watching seven days ago and for the majority of the season – we just don’t look like ourselves.
“Even if there was no red card, you would expect us to come to places like this against bottom of the league, with all due respect, and we should dominate the ball and we should create chance after chance after chance.
“We have to remember what got us to where we were seven days ago which was hard work, a team difficult to play against and then have a style and play like Rangers players and play like a team who wants to take responsibility.
“Nobody is playing with character and personality at the moment, people are just making mistake after mistake and it is difficult to watch.”

The draw comes at the start of what will be a tough sequence of matches for Rangers.
Having lost 1-0 to Aberdeen in midweek, they now travel to Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday.
Pre-Christmas fixtures against Hamilton, Hibs and St Johnstone are then penned in, before a crunch Old Firm home clash with Celtic on December 29.
As for Dundee, ex-Scotland striker Billy Dodds was impressed by the relegation-threatened side.
