Arsenal news: Unai Emery praised after making big decision on TWO players
ARSENAL boss Unai Emery is right not to offer Danny Welbeck a new contract despite his horrific leg injury.
That is according to talkSPORT pundit and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan.
Reports claim Welbeck is set to leave Arsenal for free when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The England international suffered a broken leg in October during the Europa League clash at home to Sporting Lisbon.
Welbeck is set to miss the rest of the season so looks to have played his last game for the club.
Ramsey and Welbeck are probably not players that Emery sees as part of the makeup of the team that he wants to build
Aaron Ramsey is also set to leave Arsenal next summer when his contract comes to an end.
Jordan says Emery is right to let the two players leave if they do not fit into his plans.
And Jordan believes there is no room for compassion when it comes to situations such as Welbeck’s.
“I just think this is a clearing of the guard,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.
“It’s a changing of order, new broom, sweep clean.
“The idea is that Ramsey and Welbeck are probably not players that Emery sees as part of the makeup of the team that he wants to build.
“He wants a different sort of Arsenal, he wants a different flavour.
“He wants a different look and feel and energy and vitality about it.
“And clearly he doesn’t see Welbeck (as part of his plans).
“People sitting there who think people should be given contracts because people have got compassion - leave off! This is a business.
“If you’re going to pay players £50,000, £60,000, £70,000, £80,000-a-week, then it’s a business.
“There’s no room for charity.”
Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Wednesday when they visit Old Trafford to play Manchester United.
