Chelsea news: Is Alvaro Morata finished under Maurizio Sarri? Boss may make bold move
CHELSEA could recall Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham in January.
Chelsea: Kante and Jorginho should play as a pair says pundit
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror who reckon the 21-year-old might return to west London.
The news could be the biggest sign yet that Alvaro Morata is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Morata’s form has been erratic and Maurizio Sarri started Olivier Giroud ahead of the Spaniard against Fulham today.
Abraham has been in impressive form this season.
Chelsea news: Tammy Abraham is impressing at Aston Villa
He’s already bagged 11 and found himself on the score sheet yesterday as Villa battered Middlesbrough 3-0.
In midweek he bagged a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest in a 5-5 thriller.
Despite the suggestion that Abraham could head back to Chelsea, ex-Liverpool full-back Stephen Warnock thinks Villa Park is the ideal place for him.
“Tammy needs to score goals on a regular basis,” Warnock told Express Sport.
“The system he was playing under Steve Bruce didn’t suit him whereas now it is free-flowing football under Dean Smith.
“And the way Smith played at Brentford will suit him and give him more chances throughout the game.
“If he can get sharpen up on his finishing then he should be scoring goals freely throughout the season.”
The Blues might also dip into the transfer market as they look to freshen up their forward line.
Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi has been touted as a potential arrival.
Icardi was the second top scorer in Serie A last season, scoring 28 goals in 34 league appearances.
He has been in fine form again this term, having already scored nine goals in 12 games in all competitions.
ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner says Icardi would be a clear upgrade on the strikers Chelsea already have.
“We’ve banded on about Morata, I think what Chelsea are doing is they are exploring their options,” Mariner said.
“Can they get Icardi? Will they want to sell him? I wouldn’t want to sell him.
“So would it be a good move? I’m not quite sure.
“Sarri knows way better than I do whether he would fit into Chelsea and fit into the Premier League.
“He’s a goalscorer, he puts the ball in the back off the net for fun.
“So, I like Morata, I’ve been banging the drum for him.
“But I’m going to say that would be a good move for Chelsea.”
