David De Gea: 'What would they do without him?' Man Utd star hailed for 'incredible' stop
DAVID DE GEA pulled off a phenomenal save for Manchester United against Young Boys on Tuesday.
De Gea kept the scores level at 0-0 midway through the second half of the Champions League match at Old Trafford.
The Spain No 1 somehow kept out a scrappy shot from Young Boys defender Ulisses Garcia.
The shot deflected off Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic and Young Boys’ Kevin Mbabu to wrong-foot De Gea.
But he somehow reached back and flicked it away from danger to send the home crowd into raptures.
Incredible save by David De Gea. What a save that is
Former United academy graduate Robbie Savage was co-commentating on the game and was amazed by the stop.
“How has he clawed that back?” Savage said on BT Sport.
“Incredible save by David De Gea. What a save that is.
“It took a deflection off Mbabu which made it even better.
“Just watch the deflection here off Mbabu, there.
“And David De Gea, what a save that is.
“What would they do without that goalkeeper? Brilliant save.”
Commentator Peter Drury was equally impressed with the save from United’s goalkeeper.
“It appeared beyond him, it appeared behind him De Gea,” Drury commented.
“And he stretched like a plasticine man to get his arm around it.”
Goaline technology showed the ball was exactly in the middle of De Gea's line when he pulled it away.
The save proved vital as a stoppage time winner from Marouane Fellaini gave United a 1-0 win.
That means they have secured qualification to the last 16 after Juventus beat Valencia 1-0.
