Liverpool news: PSG players would prefer Kylian Mbappe played vs Reds than Neymar - claim
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN players would much rather have Kylian Mbappe in their team than Neymar if one of them was absent through injury.
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and legendary Liverpool right-back Steve Nicol.
Both Mbappe and Neymar look to be injury doubts for Liverpool’s trip to PSG in the Champions League next week.
Neymar was taken off after just eight minutes of Brazil’s 1-0 friendly win over Cameroon on Tuesday.
The forward has a groin problem but it is not deemed to be a serious issue.
Go and ask the rest of the PSG team, because I tell you they’d probably all go for Mbappe
Mbappe went off in the first half of France’s 1-0 victory over Uruguay on the same evening.
The 19-year-old fell heavily on his shoulder after a collision with opposition goalkeeper Martin Campana.
Liverpool go to the French capital next Wednesday with Group C of the Champions League still wide open.
Jurgen Klopp’s side know they most likely need to win at least one of their last two group games, with Napoli visiting Anfield in the final match in December.
From a PSG perspective, Nicol says he would rather Mbappe be fit for the match than Neymar.
And he reckons the PSG squad would feel the same due to the difference in attitude between the star forwards.
“Mbappe,” Nicol said when asked who he would prefer.
“What you should do is go and ask the rest of the PSG team.
“Because I tell you they’d probably all go for Mbappe.
“When you’ve got a player like Neymar, who time after time after time is losing the ball, they all know he’s playing for himself, he’s putting them all out the game, he’s putting the team at risk.
“But then you’ve got Mbappe who, if he is maybe having a bad game, you know he’s losing it because he’s actually trying to help his team.
“That makes a huge difference during a game to the attitude of everybody else around you.”
Liverpool are back in Premier League action this Saturday when Watford visit Anfield.
