Man Utd news: ‘Time's up’ - United told to SACK Jose Mourinho after saying THIS about star
MANCHESTER UNITED must act now and sack Jose Mourinho following his comments after the loss to Manchester City on Sunday, claims ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley.
Mourinho: Man United 'made mistakes' against Man City
Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by rivals City at the Etihad - their fourth Premier League defeat of the season.
After the match Jose Mourinho claimed United would have had a better chance if he was able to bring Marouane Fellaini on as a substitute.
Fellaini was not fully fit but started the match due to the absence of Paul Pogba with injury.
"He was not ready to play for 90 minutes,” Mourinho said of Fellaini.
I’m sorry it’s time up, time up
“I can imagine when it was 2-1 to bring a fresh Fellaini, I think they would be in big, big trouble.”
But Burley says making a comment such as that means the end should be nigh for Mourinho.
“Any Man United manager who comes out and makes a comment after a game about ‘things would have been different if I was able to bring Marouane Fellaini off the bench’ - I’m sorry it’s time up, time up,” he said.
Burley claims there is a huge gap between United and City, as well as Liverpool, but reckons a new manager at Old Trafford would begin to narrow the difference.
“Let’s be quite frank here - Man City and even Liverpool, this is chalk and cheese,” he continued.
“This is a different planet, this is a different stratosphere, playing a different game.
“So the only way this is going to change, and we’ve had this discussion for weeks and weeks and weeks now, the only way it’s going to change is when Man United get the stomach to make the change at managerial level.
“Whilst they’ll not be as good as Man City at the moment, another manager would have them better than what they are.”
Manchester United headed into the derby on Sunday on an unbeaten run of four games in the Premier League and on the back of a memorable 2-1 win at Juventus in the Champions League.
But Burley says the victory in Turin should be taken with a pinch of salt, claiming Juventus should have won the game comfortably.
“They had turned the corner in terms of getting a couple of results,” Burley said.
“But I go back to the game, and particularly the Juventus game, that was more to do, and I stick by this, that was more to do with the fact that Juventus could not finish the game off.
“If they could have finished that game off, this game would have been dead and buried.”
United are next in action on November 24 when they host Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
