MANCHESTER UNITED’s defensive record this season is a major problem, according to former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
Man City v Man United Premier League match preview
United have conceded 18 goals in 11 Premier League games heading into Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.
Their only clean sheet so far in the league came in the 2-0 win at Burnley in September.
Their visit to the Etihad puts them up against the top scorers in the division, with City netting 33 times already.
And speaking ahead of the match Redknapp, says there is a big concern for Jose Mourinho’s side defensively.
Of course defensively I look at United and there are major problems
“Of course defensively I look at United and there are major problems,” he said on Sky Sports.
“One clean sheet all season, that’s not where you want to be really as a team.”
Manchester United head into the match on an unbeaten run of four matches in the league and after a 2-1 victory over Juventus in the Champions League.
And Redknapp says they do have the attacking threat to trouble City.
“They have to be clever,” Redknapp said of United.
“You can’t go here and just go all-out attack, it just wouldn’t be right.
“But when I watch United at the moment, they’ve got an attacking threat that not many teams possess.
"So yes they are doing better but so they should be.
Jose Mourinho says Man United will 'compete' at Man City
“They’ve got the likes of (Anthony) Martial that we’ve seen in the last five-six weeks that has bought so much life to United.
"They’ve got (Marcus) Rashford if they decide to play with him.
“If you’re Man City you’re looking at them before the game and thinking ‘we’ve got to be a bit careful here because they can hurt us on the counter attack’.”
