On Wednesday night, Cristiano Ronaldo put The Old Lady’1-0 up against Jose Mourinho’s side in the 65th minute of their Champions League clash with a sumptuous volley.
The Portuguese, who spent six seasons at Old Trafford, couldn’t contain his delight at opening the scoring, lifting up his shirt and showing off his abs in a rather bizarre celebration.
His antics annoyed some United fans, who didn’t expect their former hero to openly celebrate scoring against them.
But it appears that the former Red Devil immediately apologised to the fans who used to adore him.
Pictures of the 33-year-old pointing to the away end of the Allianz Stadium and putting his hands together in an apologetic manner started doing the rounds on social media on Thursday night.
Ronaldo’s stunning opener was cancelled out by a dazzling free kick from Juan Mata, a strike which was followed by an own-goal from Juve’s Alex Sandro.
The Italian champions dominated the game but were left rueing their missed chances at the final whistle.
“We dominated the game for 90 minutes, had so many chances, could’ve killed it off three or four times, but we relaxed and were punished,” Ronaldo said.
Manchester United did nothing to win the game
“Manchester United did nothing to win the game. You can’t even talk about luck, because you have to find your own luck and in this case, we just gifted it to them.
“The Champions League is a special competition, where you could be winning, but can’t relax, as anything can happen.
“Now we’ve got to lift our heads, as we played really well and are still top of the group.”
As ever, Ronaldo was thrilled to get his name on the scoresheet but was gutted that the Serie A giants couldn’t hold out for the win.
“I saw the replay in the dressing room,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said of his eighth strike of the season.
“I didn’t realise it was a fantastic goal, but I did a good movement and I kick the ball strong.
“I was happy with the goal, but of course I’m a little bit disappointed because we should win the game with three or four goals.
"Manchester didn’t do much, they had two chances on set pieces.
"I know English teams are always looking for set pieces.
“We will learn from our mistakes and we are still top of the group, so it’s all good.”
Ronaldo and his Juventus team-mates will look to get back to winning ways on Sunday evening when they take on AC Milan at the San Siro.
United, meanwhile, will bid to continue their good run of form against their local rivals and league leaders Manchester City, who they face at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
