Liverpool news: Steve McManaman reveals big PSG and Napoli Champions League worry
LIVERPOOL have put themselves in a bad position in Champions League Group C after the shock loss to Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.
That is the verdict of BT Sport pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman.
Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat in Serbia to basement side Red Star Belgrade.
A Milan Pavkov double put the hosts in dreamland in the first half and they saw off pressure from Liverpool after half time to complete an historic win.
Liverpool remained top of Group C with Napoli drawing 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in the later kick off.
You don’t want to go into the last game needing to beat Napoli or Napoli needing a draw or anything like that
The Reds face a trip to PSG in two weeks time before ending their group campaign at home to Napoli.
McManaman was not impressed with his former side and is now worried for their hopes of getting through to the knockout stages.
“They’re struggling away from home and PSG are playing really well at home,” McManaman said of Liverpool.
“So that’s a game that anything could happen if PSG turn up.
“Depending on the results tonight, we know Napoli are going to play Red Star at home next, you’d expect them to win that.
“You don’t want to go into the last game needing to beat Napoli or Napoli needing a draw or anything like that.
“We know how good the Italians are defensively.
“So a real bad performance and a terrible result in the grand scheme of things.
“Losing to Napoli in the way they did and then tonight, not even getting a point tonight just to set themselves a little further forward.
“They’ve really put themselves in a bad position in the group.”
Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they host Fulham (12pm).
The Reds will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the league this season.
