Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher sends strong message to fans after Arsenal draw
LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher has told Reds supporters not to overreact to Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.
Arsenal claimed a deserved point at the Emirates to a late Alexandre Lacazette equaliser.
The result means Liverpool are now third in the Premier League table, two points behind reigning champions Manchester City at the top.
Carragher claims some Liverpool supporters have reacted wrongly to the game and should not rule their side out of the title race yet.
The Sky Sports pundit admits City are the better team and it will be difficult to stop them winning it for a second successive campaign.
You’d think Liverpool had lost the league after the game at the weekend because ‘oh it’s two points dropped, Man City are going to win it'
However, he reckons there could be a chance for Liverpool later in the season if City’s focus turns to the Champions League.
So Jamie Carragher has told fans to remain calm in the coming months.
“I think Liverpool supporters, myself included obviously, have got to just relax a little bit,” Carragher said.
“You’d think Liverpool had lost the league after the game at the weekend because ‘oh it’s two points dropped, Man City are going to win it, they’re two points clear’. There’s a long way to go.
“Man City are better than Liverpool - everyone knows that, there’s no problem there.
“That doesn’t mean Liverpool can’t win the league.
“I think Liverpool’s hope of winning the league is in the second half of the season if City go far in the Champions League and the whole club focuses on the Champions League and it takes their eye off the ball slightly.
“That’s the only chance Liverpool have got because City are better than them.
“I think (Jurgen) Klopp speaks really well and the players about this situation.
“Liverpool have made a brilliant start and the fact Arsenal are so delighted with a 1-1 draw at home probably shows the respect everyone has for Liverpool.
“Just relax a bit, it’s been a brilliant start and I think everyone expects it to continue.
“But it will be tough against Man City.”
