Leicester star booked for taking off shirt revealing Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha tribute
LEICESTER star Demarai Gray was booked for taking off his shirt after scoring to pay tribute to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
The Foxes beat Cardiff 1-0 today in Wales, just a week after the helicopter tragedy at the King Power Stadium last week.
Leicester owner Srivaddhanaprabha and four others lost their lives in the crash after the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with West Ham.
Gray netted the only goal of the Premier League clash against Cardiff this afternoon in a narrow win.
The winger then took his shirt off, revealing a ‘For Khun Vichai’ tribute.
However, referee Lee Probert opted to book the Leicester star, despite the emotion surrounding the game.
Fans took to social media after the game to slam Probert for dishing out the yellow card.
One fan wrote: “Lee Probert has just booked Demarai Gray for celebrating and taking his shirt off to show a tribute undershirt
“When does common sense over power the rule book?
“I don’t even think Lee Probert wanted to show him a yellow he was almost sorry for doing it, it’s just silly.”
Another added: “Crazy - and disgusting - that Demarai Gray still gets a yellow card for taking his shirt off when it reads "For Vichai”.”
“Demarai Gray scores for Leicester, pulls off his shirt to reveal a message with ‘For Khun Vichai’ and then gets booked? Have some heart ref, ffs,” another supporter claimed.
A fellow fan added: “Demarai Gray getting booked for taking his shirt off to reveal another T-Shirt that said 'For Khun Vichai' is absolutely horrendous.
“Sometimes the importance of context overrides the rules. It's sport at the end of the day.”
Leicester boss Claude Puel revealed before the game he would let his stars decide up until 3pm if they wanted to play against Cardiff.
The Foxes stars will fly to Bangkok for Srivaddhanaprabha’s funeral this evening.
Puel’s men are back in action next Saturday, with Leicester hosting Burnley in the Premier League.
