Real Madrid news: Roberto Martinez will bring BARCELONA football to the Bernabeu - Gray
ROBERTO MARTINEZ would bring a 'Barcelona' style of football to Real Madrid if he was appointed as Julen Lopetegui’s replacement, according to Andy Gray.
Martinez is the second favourite with the bookies to become the next Real Madrid manager behind interim Santiago Solari.
The Spaniard is the current Belgium boss but would reportedly be keen on moving to Real if offered the opportunity.
Former Aston Villa and Scotland star Gray is a fan of Martinez and previously claimed he could replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
And the pundit believes Martinez would bring a style of football that would please the Real Madrid fans.
He likes to play football, almost the Barcelona way
“It makes perfect sense to me,” Gray told beIN SPORTS.
“If there’s not a huge, dynamic character out there that they can go to.
“Roberto Martinez, as Real Madrid are concerned he’s Spanish for a start. Perfect language, can go in there, bang - hit the ground running.
“He’s got the feeling that he’s the best coach in the world.
"He would walk into Real Madrid and he wouldn’t feel inferior in any way, so that’s a big plus.
“Three, he likes to play football, almost the Barcelona way, almost like ‘get it down, pass it, play it, knock it about, play it forward, full-backs forward, get people in the box, play good football, progressive football’.
"They would love that.”
Gray also believes Martinez is capable of managing some of the biggest players in world football, as he has shown with Belgium.
“If they don’t get (Antonio) Conte, if they don’t want (Arsene) Wenger, if they don’t get (Mauricio) Pochettino, I could see them talking to Martinez, who’s the manager of the second best football nation in the world - Belgium,” he continued.
“He manages (Kevin) De Bruyne, (Romelu) Lukaku, loads of others we could name.
“Top, top players. Top, top players. So I think he could cope with top, top players (at Madrid).
“If he gets (Sergio) Ramos on side from day one, he’s got a chance.”
