Trent Alexander-Arnold: Why Liverpool star has learnt from Man Utd and Chelsea - Ferdinand
TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD has learnt from bad experiences against Manchester United and Chelsea to become a top right-back for Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool are going to win as much as we can
That is the opinion of BT Sport pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
Alexander-Arnold has become Jurgen Klopp’s first choice on the right-hand side of defence in the last 12 months.
The 20-year-old’s mesmeric rise saw him gain a place in the England World Cup squad for the tournament in Russia this summer.
Ferdinand is a huge fan of Alexander-Arnold and his ability to learn from previous mistakes.
What I love about him is he seems to be a student of the game. He’s looking to learn all the time
And ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Red Star, the pundit analysed mistakes Alexander-Arnold made away to United last season and Chelsea last month.
“I love the way he plays,” Ferdinand said of the Liverpool star.
“What I love about him is he seems to be a student of the game. He’s looking to learn all the time.
“This is early on in his career, went to Old Trafford, massive stage, (Marcus) Rashford really that day run him ragged, he was at fault for that goal.
“Again this season, we see here against (Eden) Hazard, the best player in the league at the time, defensively goes to sleep there.
“But he’s someone who’s willing and wants to learn.
“That’s what you want from young defenders, they’re going to make mistakes, there’s going to be times where there is a lack of form and confidence.
“He makes a mistake, he doesn’t get down about it.
“Here, the most in-form winger in the world at the time probably (Leroy) Sane, he didn’t give him an inch, he didn’t give him a yard this game, he was magnificent defensively.
“And when he got on the ball, it was a cert he would go forward and play positively as well.
“That’s what I like about him, one v one he’s not afraid.”
