Liverpool news: Sadio Mane injury update, Jurgen Klopp drops Red Star Belgrade hint
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested Sadio Mane could be set to return to the side against Red Star Belgrade tomorrow night.
Jurgen Klopp hints Sadio Mane return after injury
Mane was one of several Liverpool players returning from international duty with an injury issue having suffered a broken thumb.
He was unavailable for selection at the weekend against Huddersfield, but his presence wasn’t needed as Klopp’s side won 1-0.
But with injury issues mounting up at Anfield, Klopp will be hoping to have Mane back available sooner rather than later.
And the Liverpool boss has suggested the Senegal international could be back available as early as tomorrow.
“Sadio has trained past 2 days completely normal, he's in contention,” Klopp said.
“I learned that word today just a few seconds ago!”
Klopp will have to make do without club captain Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita as the two recover from hamstring issues.
Mane made an incredible start to the season for Liverpool, scoring four goals in his opening four Premier League games.
But the goals have dried up in recent weeks, his last coming in the 2-1 win over Leicester at the beginning of last month.
Daniel Sturridge, Xheridan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana were given a rare start at the weekend with Roberto Firmino being given a rest.
But the Brazilian forward will likely return to the starting line-up against Red Star as Liverpool hope to move to the top of their group.
Napoli take on Paris Saint-Germain, meaning Liverpool need to take advantage by not dropping any points against the Serbian outfit.
