Tottenham warned Christian Eriksen will QUIT for Real Madrid or Barca unless this happens
CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN will be prepared to quit Tottenham for Barcelona or Real Madrid if Spurs refuse to match his contract demands.
Eriksen is one of Tottenham’s star players but is out of contract in the summer of 2020.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been loosely linked with the playmaker in recent months.
Spurs will have to address the Denmark international’s contract situation soon or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
The north London club are notorious for playing hardball with players over salaries.
Eriksen’s agents will have asked Tottenham for more money
But Tottenham legend Chris Waddle is wary his former club may lose Eriksen if they’re not careful.
“Eriksen is reaching superstar status and there’s no surprise to read reports of Real Madrid and Barcelona being interested,” he told SportingBet.
“Eriksen’s agents will have asked Tottenham for more money and he will leave if the club don’t give him it.
“Real Madrid and Barcelona would jump at offering him those terms so the ball is in Tottenham’s court.”
Eriksen has been on top form for Spurs this season as they compete in the Champions League and Premier League.
The club are set for a period of frugality as they finance the building of their new stadium.
And Waddle has challenged chairman Daniel Levy to set out his plans for the club in the transfer market.
“This is where Daniel Levy decides what type of club he wants Tottenham to be and where he wants them to go,” Waddle added.
“It would be a massive statement to give Eriksen a new deal, but would also be a big red flag if they don’t.
“It would be a fantastic move if he signed a new deal, but money will talk loudest.”
Spurs play West Ham at 3pm on Saturday, before their third Champions League group game of the campaign against PSV next Wednesday.
