Liverpool news: Lorenzo Insigne deal depends on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane - Marcotti
LIVERPOOL buying Lorenzo Insigne is unlikely because he would not be as affective as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
That is the verdict of Italian football expert and ESPN FC pundit Gabriele Marcotti.
Napoli star Insigne has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent days.
Insigne is used to playing a pressing style of football, with Maurizio Sarri adopting that tactic for the three years he was at the Serie A club before leaving for Chelsea in the summer.
But Marcotti claims Jurgen Klopp’s pressing style is completely different to Napoli’s and doubts whether Insigne would have the stamina and pace to cope with it if he moved to Anfield.
I think Mane and Salah are ahead of Insigne on this one. So I just don’t see him as a great fit
Marcotti says the Italy international would not break into the Liverpool team ahead of the likes of Salah and Mane.
The duo have formed a formidable three-pronged attack in the last 12 months. with Brazil star Roberto Firmino
“I’m not really buying this one,” Marcotti said of the Insigne rumours.
“I think well Napoli obviously under Sarri was a high-pressing team, the way Liverpool press is very different.
“A lot more is required in terms of stamina and flat-out pace.
“I think Mane and Salah are ahead of Insigne on this one.
“So I just don’t see him as a great fit.
"So I’m not on board with this.”
Insigne, 27, came through the youth ranks at Napoli and has been a regular since returning from a loan spell at Pescara in 2012.
He has scored 70 goals for the Italian side in 272 games in all competitions.
Insigne has found the net on four occasions in his 29 caps for his country.
He played the entire 90 minutes as Italy beat Poland 1-0 in the Nations League on Sunday.
