Chelsea player ratings: International stars – Jorginho shines, Hazard quiet, Morata fails
CHELSEA players will return from international duty with a mixed bag of experiences.
Chelsea players will return to Cobham in the coming days after a mixed international break for some of their biggest stars.
Eden Hazard has been in scintilating form for his club, but the Chelsea hero failed to replicate his performances for Belgium.
Alvaro Morata joined a trio of Spanish team-mates in Luis Enrique's squad but endured another rough week without a goal.
Jorginho produced a terrific display for Italy – but who else impressed and who failed to deliver during the international break?
Ross Barkley (England) vs Croatia, Spain
One of many England players who failed to threaten in the Croatia game, but was a key figure in the great win over Spain. A strong return to the international fold. 7
Eden Hazard (Belgium) vs Switzerland, Netherlands
A strangely subdued week for Hazard who failed to record a goal or assist in 135 minutes of international football. 5
Mateo Kovacic (Croatia) vs England, Jordan
Couldn’t create anything against England and picked up a yellow card before being subbed off to end his international involvement for the break. 5
Andreas Christensen (Denmark) vs Ireland, Austria
Played a role in both games without conceding. 6
N’Golo Kante (France) vs Iceland, Germany
Rested against Iceland, Kante huffed and puffed against Germany without ever really hitting his usual top gear. 6
Olivier Giroud (France) vs Iceland, Germany
Didn’t have an impact in either game. He’s not intended to be a prolific goalscorer, but he couldn’t provide much of anything while leading the line. 5
Jorginho (Italy) vs Ukraine, Poland
Ran the show in the opening game with a man of the match display. 8
Cesar Azpilicueta (Spain) vs Wales, England
Solid. Simply didn’t have much to do against Wales and was given the night off against England. 7
Marcos Alonso (Spain) vs Wales, England
Endured a rough night trying to cope with Raheem Sterling and could only contribute several wild efforts that barely threatened Jordan Pickford. 5
Alvaro Morata (Spain) vs Wales, England
Unfortunately Morata’s problems have translated onto the international stage. He missed a great chance to score and failed to threaten. 4
Kepa Arrizabalaga (Spain) vs Wales, England
Played a half against Wales. He could have done better for the goal, but made some comfortable saves. 6
Ethan Ampadu (Wales) vs Spain, Ireland
Looked composed despite being faced with such a daunting task against Spain. Forced off through injury and didn’t play against Ireland. 7
