Man Utd news: Zinedine Zidane may REJECT United because of Liverpool and Man City - pundit
ZINEDINE ZIDANE could turn down the Manchester United job because of the current gap between the Red Devils and the top of the Premier League, reckons ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley.
Craig Burley: Zidane will have a HUGE job to do at Man United
Zidane is the favourite to replace the under-pressure Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Mourinho may have bought himself some more time with a dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle last Saturday after being 2-0 down early on.
However, he remains the favourite with the bookies to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.
Zidane has also been linked with the manager’s job at Bayern Munich, with Niko Kovac’s position already under threat with Bayern sixth in the Bundesliga.
It will be easier to get Bayern Munich up and running and back to the top of the Bundesliga than it would getting Man United up
Burley believes the Bayern job would be the easier option for Zidane, who left Real Madrid at the end of last season.
He says the distance to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool would make it a much tougher task at United.
“Bayern Munich under Kovac are struggling at the moment,” Burley told ESPN FC.
“We know Mourinho is under the cosh at United. That doesn’t look like it’s going to end well for him.
“If we take Bayern Munich and Manchester United. What is the easier of the two jobs? Neither of them are easy jobs.
“Bayern Munich is the easier of the two jobs.
“It will be easier to get Bayern Munich up and running and back to the top of the Bundesliga than it would getting Man United up and running and back to the top of the Premier League.
“I don’t think that’s up for debate, although some people out there will try and debate that because that’s what people are like.
“So it depends whether, if he was offered any of these two jobs, and I don’t know if he is, what one he has the appetite for.
“If he wants the United job if and when it comes available, he’s going to have to hunker down for a tough one because he’s got City to overturn, he’s potentially got Liverpool who are flying and he’s got Chelsea under Sarri who look quite strong.
“That’s a huge job, that’s a massive, massive job.
“Bayern Munich is a big job, of course it is.
“But I think it’s easier to get them back to the top of the Bundesliga and get them rolling than it is Man United.”
