Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher reveals Jurgen Klopp title worry
JAMIE CARRAGHER has opened up on Liverpool’s chances of winning the title.
Liverpool currently sit third in the Premier League table, but level on 20 points with Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Reds were held to a goalless draw with City last weekend as Riyad Mahrez missed a late penalty.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had won all six of their opening matches before they drew with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Now the Reds haven’t won in four matches going into the international break.
Jamie Carragher spent 15 years at Anfield and believes Jurgen Klopp’s side are unlucky to be competing at the same time as Guardiola’s Manchester City team.
“I just wonder if it’s come at the wrong time, with City and Guardiola. Because I think they’re going to dominate. I think in the next four years, City could win three titles,” Carragher told This is Anfield.
“But, they might have a year when they don’t and I just think we’ve got to be that team.
“I think if [Roberto] Mancini or [Manuel] Pellegrini were managing Manchester City, we’d win the league (under Klopp). I really do.
“But, similar to [Rafa] Benitez in some ways, City have got something special, and a special manager, that could stop us.
“Even though we’ve got a special manager, it might just stop us getting over the line. That’s my only worry for Klopp.”
Last season, Pep Guardiola’s City side became the first ever team to reach 100 points in Premier League history.
England’s top flight has become notoriously difficult to win back-to-back.
Manchester United were the last team to retain the title back in 2008/09.
What bodes well for Liverpool is that their deadly attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is yet to click into first gear.
Last season they shared 57 Premier League goals between them.
So far this campaign they have only scored nine and they will have to pick it up if they’re to help Liverpool win the Premier League title.
