Barcelona news: Liverpool transfer questioned after Everton deal
BARCELONA have been questioned over their reported interest in Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno.
Moreno has emerged as a shock target for Barcelona in the January transfer window.
The Spaniard has found life tough at Liverpool since Andy Robertson joined the club in the summer of 2017.
Moreno would most likely only be second choice to Spain international Jordi Alba at Barcelona.
However, ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner is confused as to why Barcelona would want Moreno.
Why didn’t they keep Digne? They sell him to Everton for £20m-odd
He says Moreno is nowhere near the quality of Lucas Digne, who left Barca to join Liverpool’s rivals Everton in the summer.
Mariner claims joining Barcelona would be a great move for Moreno.
However, he says the La Liga giants should have just kept hold of Digne instead.
“Is this a misprint?” Mariner said.
“Well that’s all he’s going to be (cover for Jordi Alba).
“Why didn’t they keep Digne? They sell him to Everton for £20m-odd.
“Okay fine, but why? This is such a downgrade.
“For Moreno, this is a fantastic move if it comes off.
“Is it a good move for Barcelona? No.
“They’ve got to hope and pray that Alba stays fit and robust and healthy all season.”
Moreno has made just one appearance for Liverpool this season, in the 2-1 Carabao Cup loss to Chelsea last month.
Digne has played seven times for Everton, starting their last five Premier League games.
