Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher tells Jurgen Klopp one signing he must make in January
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp must buy a creative midfielder in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Sports pundit and ex-Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher.
Jurgen Klopp splashed out £175million on four new signings in the summer window.
The German brought in goalkeeper Alisson, midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho and winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
So far the signings seem to have worked, with Liverpool third in the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea and Manchester City above them.
I think if Liverpool are in a really good position in January, or wherever they are, I think they’ve got to be looking to address that
However, Jamie Carragher believes there is still improvement possible to the Reds squad.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City yesterday, Carragher’s co-pundit Graeme Souness claimed the failed pursuit of Nabil Fekir in the summer proved Klopp wanted to sign a creative midfielder.
And Carragher says it is an area that needs to be addressed after Christmas.
“I think if Liverpool are in a really good position in January, or wherever they are, I think they’ve got to be looking to address that,” Carragher said.
“It’s not necessarily to have somebody who comes in and plays every single game.
“But they haven’t really got anyone sort of in the squad.
“(Adam) Lallana’s too injury prone. Even if (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain comes back, Keita comes in there, Fabinho, they’re all still the same.
“There’s no, I wouldn’t say No 10 because Liverpool don’t play with a No 10, but someone like David Silva, Bernardo Silva.
“Even if it’s just a player in the squad.
“Yeah (a door opener), exactly.”
Liverpool's next Premier League fixture after the international break is a trip to Huddersfield on October 20 (5.30pm).
David Wagner's side are one of three teams yet to win a league game so far this term.
