Man Utd news: Roma star told to reject January transfer because of Jose Mourinho
ROMA midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has been told to reject a January move to Manchester United because of the increasing doubt over the future of manager Jose Mourinho.
Pellegrini has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the winter transfer window.
However, former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop says the Italy international should hold out for a different club.
Reports say United boss Mourinho will be sacked this weekend whatever the result of today’s Premier League clash at home to Newcastle (5.30pm).
However, these claims have been denied by United, who say they still back the Portuguese.
If you’re a player like Pellegrini, who will continue to attract attention from other clubs, why United? Why right now?
Hislop says whatever happens with Mourinho, Pellegrini should stay put at Roma for the time being.
“Maybe (they would trust him to sign players),” Hislop said of Mourinho on ESPN FC.
“They continue to say they are backing Jose Mourinho.
“I know that Roma are trying to get Pellegrini to renew his contract.
“At the same time, despite the board’s continued faith, or seeming faith, in Jose Mourinho, I just feel that there’s too much going on behind the scenes there.
“If you’re a player like Pellegrini, who will continue to attract attention from other clubs, why United? Why right now?”
Hislop has similar advice for United winger Anthony Martial, who was linked with a departure in the summer.
The pundit says Martial should stay put and see what happens to Mourinho.
“I thought he would have left this summer,” Hislop said when asked if the Frenchman should leave.
“I’m going to put this down as a miss because I think everybody’s playing chicken as to who leaves first.
“Is it going to be player or manager?
"So I’m going to say a miss for right now, because given the continued speculation around Jose Mourinho’s own future, maybe Martial thinks just sitting tight might be his best bet for now.”
Pellegrini joined Roma from Sassuolo in 2017 and has scored four goals in 43 appearances.
