Arsenal news: Tottenham transfer target told to join Gunners instead
ARSENAL should sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot ahead of north London rivals Tottenham.
Tottenham transfer target Rabiot told to join Arsenal by pundit
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner.
Rabiot has been linked with a move away from PSG, with Tottenham reportedly one of the clubs interested in a January deal.
The France international has also been on the radar of Arsenal in the past, with former Paris boss Unai Emery now in charge at the Emirates.
But it was Rabiot’s link to Tottenham that Mariner was asked about on the ESPN FC transfer rater.
I wish that said ‘The Arsenal’ because I think he’d fit in an absolute treat
And he revealed how he would love to see him playing for his former side.
“I love this guy, love him,” Mariner said.
“I wish that said ‘The Arsenal’ because I think he’d fit in an absolute treat.”
Mariner reckons Rabiot would be a good signing for Tottenham and claims they should have looked to sign him earlier.
But he does not think it would be a wise move by PSG boss Thomas Tuchel to let him leave.
“Do Tottenham need him? Absolutely they need him,” he continued.
“Should they have tried to get him earlier? Yes they should.
“I cannot see PSG letting him go, where they are focusing on the Champions League.
“That’s how Tuchel is going to be judged. If he lets him go, it lessens his chances.
“They had a tough opening game against Liverpool. So from the PSG viewpoint, this is a definite miss.
“For Rabiot, maybe he wants pastures new. But I say miss.”
Rabiot has played 214 games for PSG in all competitions, scoring 23 goals.
