Liverpool news: Man City star Vincent Kompany makes Premier League claim, snubs Man Utd
LIVERPOOL and Manchester City are not the only Premier League title contenders.
Guardiola: I want City to be ALIVE against Liverpool
That’s the view of City star Vincent Kompany, who believes Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are all in with a chance.
The defender has not included Manchester United on his contenders though with the Red Devils already nine points behind City and Liverpool in the table.
Pep Guardiola’s men are joint top with Liverpool on 19 points after seven games, with Chelsea just two points behind.
The table-toppers face each other this weekend with Jurgen Klopp’s side hosting City on Sunday (4.30pm).
And Kompany, who has won three Premier League titles with City, has had his say on who the favourites are for the league this season.
“I don’t agree with just putting City and Liverpool as title contenders,” Kompany said.
“Chelsea have shown so much already this season. Arsenal, Tottenham are coming back.
“You’d think there’d be a bigger points gap by now but it’s not.
“I think most teams at the top are firing on all cylinders at this moment in time and this makes this league exciting.”
Liverpool and Manchester City were both in Champions League action this week, achieving differing results.
City came from behind to beat Hoffenheim while Liverpool suffered their first loss of the season at Napoli.
But Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has fired a warning to Liverpool’s title rivals.
“I think we can still develop as a team a lot more,” Wijnaldum said.
“It’s still the beginning of the season.
“The most important thing is that you grow throughout the season - that you are at your strongest at the middle and at the end.
“We are going good and we have the results we want but we are analysing a lot to get even better because that will help us to win a lot more games.”
