Zidane is the bookmakers favourite after leaving Real Madrid in the summer.
Zidane guided Madrid to three consecutive Champions League successes and one La Liga crown in two and a half seasons.
Reports this morning claim he has called Mourinho to tell him he hasn’t been tracking the job behind his back.
But the call is said to have worried Mourinho that the Frenchman is being lined up for the job.
Zidane is also believed to have started English lessons to help him in the hot seat.
