Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp pays tribute to Daniel Sturridge after stunning equaliser
JURGEN KLOPP paid tribute to Daniel Sturridge after the substitute fired a stunning equaliser at Stamford Bridge.
The hosts were on track to end Liverpool’s unbeaten start thanks to Eden Hazard’s goal.
Sturridge struck a sensational 89th minute equaliser, curling the ball over the head of the outstretched Kepa Arrizabalaga.
His manager paid tribute to the striker for earning the Reds a point.
“It’s cool, it’s so good and so deserved. Everybody is so happy for him,” Klopp said.
“When he came in the dressing room, the whole dressing room was pretty much dancing.
“He had a difficult time of course but now he has a wonderful time.”
This was the striker’s second goal against his former side this week, having netted in the Carabao Cup defeat in midweek.
“Maybe now it’s the time where he wants to start all the time,” Klopp added.
“Coming in and being fresh and making decisions is so important and being decisive and he was obviously.
“He had a similar situation last game we saw what a footballer he is.”
Sturridge has had to entertain a back-up role to Roberto Firmino but now the forward is knocking on the door for a starting place.
This was Sturridge’s fourth goal of the season, a creditable record given his lack of minutes.
He may have a valid argument given Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s lack of sharpness in front of goal.
Liverpool are now second in the table as Manchester City capitalised on their dropped points with a win over Brighton.
The two clash at Anfield next weekend in what seems an unmissable game in the Premier League title race.
