Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho to DROP Paul Pogba vs West Ham? Boss told to make big decision
MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Paul Pogba must be dropped against West Ham on Saturday - so that the club and Jose Mourinho can show they have control over his situation.
That is the view of BBC Sport pundit and former Tottenham, Newcastle and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has continued to hit the headlines this week, with the Frenchman stripped of the vice-captaincy at Manchester United.
Then on Wednesday, video footage appeared to show a confrontation between the duo in training.
Speculation over a feud between the two has gone on for months but Pogba has still started every Premier League game under Mourinho this season.
They need to lay down a marker to their biggest players at times to say ‘that’s not how you behave as a Manchester United player’
But Jenas believes United and Mourinho are not dealing with the situation well by continuing to pick him.
“It’s up to the club to handle that situation,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Where I think the breakdown happens is that it seems no matter what Paul Pogba says, he still plays.
“Now that for me is where the problem lies with Mourinho and Manchester United.
“They should, if they want to control it and want to contain it, they need to lay down a marker to their biggest players at times to say ‘that’s not how you behave as a Manchester United player’.
“And they’re not doing that.”
Jenas also believes the view that the current atmosphere at United is different to what it was under Sir Alex Ferguson is wrong.
“I think people have this idyllic view of Manchester United under Fergie, that it was so perfect and everybody did as they were told,” he added.
“I think people tend to forget the issues they had with Roy Keane, the issues with Becks (David Beckham) at times, obviously the (Eric) Cantona situation.
“I think what you need to understand is that Manchester United will always have the biggest names in world football at their football club.
“So therefore the stories are always greater, they’re always bigger.
“These things happen at most training grounds.”
United face West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday, looking to bounce back from a draw against Wolves last weekend.
