Paul Pogba looks furious as Jose Mourinho laughs on his way to Man Utd training
JOSE MOURINHO looked in good spirits arriving at training despite his bust-up with Paul Pogba yesterday.
Paul Pogba watches Man United's defeat to Derby from stands
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho looked in a good mood as he was driven to training this morning, despite his latest fall-out with Paul Pogba.
The duo were involved in a frosty altercation during an open session at Carrington yesterday, reportedly triggered by Pogba’s use of Instagram.
The French midfielder was left out of the squad to face Derby in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday but was in the stands to watch as his side lost on penalties.
Pogba uploaded a video to Instagram of himself, Andreas Pereira and Luke Shaw joking around during the match at Old Trafford, which is said to have irked his manager.
And the pair were filmed exchanging words at the beginning of the session on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after Mourinho stripped Pogba of the United vice-captaincy.
However, the latest saga in their fractious relationship is obviously not bothering the Red Devils boss as he was snapped laughing with his driver on his arrival at Carrington.
The 55-year-old was beaming in the back seat of a new Jaguar, cutting a stark contrast to Pogba’s serious demeanour.
The World Cup winner was chauffeured in to training by a friend, and looked far less happy to be there than Mourinho.
The headline duo have been at loggerheads all season, with Pogba most recently critical of United’s style of play after a 1-1 draw with Wolves.
Mourinho is also understood to be furious with his player’s desire to join Barcelona, although a return to Juventus is another option.
It is unclear whether Pogba will feature against West Ham this weekend, although the 25-year-old has been in fine form so far this season.
Nemanja Matic is almost certain to start against the Hammers while Marouane Fellaini, Fred, Ander Herrera and Pereira are all options if Pogba is overlooked.
“The body language in this footage suggests the kind of stare-down that you see between prize-fighters at a weigh-in.
“Pogba arrives looking chipper enough, greeting other players with some upbeat hand-slaps but when he spots Mourinho mooching with his hands in his pockets he pauses in what looks like disbelief or shock, staring intently at the manager whose concealing of his hands shows he has no intention of offering a warm greeting.
“There appears to be words exchanged but it's the ongoing staring and facial expressions that seems to define what looks suspiciously like dislike between the two men.
“Jose walks behind his player and Pogba turns his head to continue the stare.
“The fact this incident was played out in public and in front of the team rather than back in the office suggests little desire for any fence-building at this stage.”
