Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea: Shaqiri, Mignolet impress – but forgotten man flops
LIVERPOOL have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a moment of brilliance from Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard.
Klopp: We couldn’t strike back after Eden Hazard’s goal
Liverpool were defeated 2-1 by Chelsea in their Carabao Cup third round tie with Eden Hazard providing a stunning strike for the visitors at Anfield.
Daniel Sturridge scored the opener for the Reds, but the Blues struck back with a tap-in from Emerson Palmieri and Hazard's screamer.
Simon Mignolet impressed on his return to first team action, as did Xherdan Shaqiri, but a fellow squad player endured a shocking night.
Liverpool's solid defence in 2018/19 looked shaky without Virgil van Dijk, and several key players failed to show up.
Express Sport has rounded up the Liverpool player ratings against Chelsea in their Carabao Cup clash.
Simon Mignolet – 6
Palmed the ball straight into Emerson's path for the goal, but otherwise solid. Made some very decent saves throughout.
Nathaniel Clyne – 7
Got forward well and looked fit. He won't snatch his place back from Trent Alexander-Arnold, but both players will benefit from the competition.
Joel Matip – 7
Handled Alvaro Morata well, though given the Blues' star's current form, that may not be such a great achievement.
Dejan Lovren – 6
Defended well without any real issues.
Alberto Moreno – 4
Offered nothing in attack and got part of his soul ripped out by Eden Hazard during his outrageous run and finish. Schooled.
James Milner – 5
Tidy enough, but this was a very low-key performance from the usually reliable midfield man. Lacked his usual class.
Fabinho – 6
Didn't have much to do as Chelsea's midfield lacked energy and verve. Good to rack up game time though and didn't look out of place.
Naby Keita – 6
Made some good surging runs from deep in true Keita style, but he couldn't properly penetrate the wobbling Chelsea backline.
Xherdan Shaqiri – 7
Arguably the best attacking player on the pitch. Such a busy runner and handful for defenders. Unlucky not to have won the game.
Daniel Sturridge – 6
Missed a sitter and scored an awkward chance. Really needed to finish the early effort – he could've ended Chelsea's hopes in the first half.
Sadio Mane – 6
Lively on the wing but couldn't make it count.
