Paul Pogba transfer decision rests on Jose Mourinho and Man Utd must accept that - Zenden
MANCHESTER UNITED must accept the future of Paul Pogba rests in Jose Mourinho’s hands - or face the consequences from the manager.
Paul Pogba is 'poison' to Man United says Alan Brazil
That is the view of former Liverpool and Chelsea player Bolo Zenden.
Pogba and Mourinho are at odds with each other at Manchester United.
The Frenchman has been stripped of the vice-captaincy in the latest twist to their ongoing saga, which saw Pogba criticise United’s tactics during the weekend draw with Watford.
Juventus and Barcelona are said to be interested in landing Pogba, while PSG have been mooted as suitors.
If the board doesn’t back up Mourinho we all know where that’s going to go in the end
And Zenden, who enjoyed stints at Chelsea, Liverpool, Middlesbrough and Sunderland during his playing career, reckons Mourinho will have the final say on the matter or kick up a further fuss.
“It’s difficult for me to comment on what he (Paul Pogba) should do,” the former Netherlands international told talkSPORT.
“If there’s a price tag on him, Mourinho has to make a choice saying ‘we can’t have this in the squad’.
“The club then has to take the loss and reinvest it in other players.
“If the board doesn’t back up Mourinho we all know where that’s going to go in the end.”
Pogba set up Fred for Manchester United’s goal in their 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday and boasts four goals for himself this season.
The World Cup winner returned from France’s exploits in Russia at the peak of his powers after a stellar tournament.
But Pogba has run hot and cold during the early weeks of the season and former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman reckons the fans are getting restless.
“Look at how many trophies (Jose Mourinho) has won,” Seaman said on talkSPORT.
“It’s a hard decision. I think Manchester United fans are getting more on Jose’s side than Pogba’s.”
Next up for United is a Premier League clash at West Ham on Saturday, before they host Valencia in the Champions League next week.
