Celtic news: Rangers icon Kris Boyd SLAMS players - ‘Are they really that bothered?’
CELTIC have been blasted by Rangers icon Kris Boyd, who claims the players don’t care about the Scottish title race.
Celtic completed a historic double treble last season under manager Brendan Rodgers.
But over the summer they crashed out of Champions League qualifying and have already lost twice in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic sit sixth in the table, six points off leaders Hearts and two places behind rivals Rangers.
And Boyd, who was on the Kilmarnock bench as they beat Celtic 2-1 at the weekend, is unimpressed by what he’s seen from the players.
Are they really that bothered?
"You only have to look at their performances,” he said on BBC Radio Scotland.
"Are they really that bothered to be playing in a Celtic jersey right now? Not for me."
Boyd also believes there have been problems behind the scenes following the Hoops’ Champions League qualification failure.
"I know there was a meeting after the Champions League exit,” he added.
"And, when you look at that, there is a divide in the dressing-room, there is no doubt about it. It was quite clear."
Celtic lost to Kilmarnock thanks to a late Stuart Findlay strike.
It moved the Rugby Park club above Celtic in the league table.
Speaking after the defeat, Brendan Rodgers admitted the fans are right to be concerned about their league title defence.
“Yes, I think they should [be worried]. It’s a challenge," he said.
"We have to accept that. There’s no doubt we need to be better.
"When you’re at the biggest clubs and you don’t win the heat comes onto you.
"That’s when you show you’re a Celtic player, manager, member of staff. You come together.
"When you lose games the spotlight will always be on you. You need to do the basics right.
"And the basics cost us this time.”
