Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp hits back at Mohamed Salah criticism
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has played down talk of Mohamed Salah struggling at Anfield.
The Egyptian has only found the net twice in all competitions this season off the back of an impressive debut campaign last term.
Salah's struggles continued against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek and the attacker appeared to throw his bottle in anger when Roberto Firmino netted a late winner during the tie.
But Klopp has played down any speculation surrounding the Liverpool player, insisting his performances have been 'outstanding' in recent weeks.
"On a defensive side, his last two games were outstanding," he told reporters.
He's ready to work for the team in these moments
"He's ready to work for the team in these moments.
"He's still a threat in offensive situations.
"Finishing is something you can never take for granted.
"Of course everybody expects [same as last year].
"We don't. What did he get [in first six] last season? Three.
"And two in six this season? Wow, that's a crisis.
"He needed time last year, like we all needed time.
"And he will take time this season as well."
Salah will be hoping he can re-find his scoring boots against Southampton on Saturday.
However, Liverpool will be without some key players for the visit of Mark Hughes' side as Klopp confirmed Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Dominic Solanke are all facing a few more weeks on the sidelines.
"Dejan is close. He looks really fit," he added.
"Fitness wise is on a really okay level - better than average.
"He's not in squad for weekend but we will see how soon we can try to involve him again."
"Solanke trains today for first time after concussion.
"Divock still feels his injury, maybe Sunday first session with the team.
"Adam Lallana gets closer and closer. Still doing rehab. Not too far away."
