Man Utd news: Rio Ferdinand LAUGHS at Man City after ‘lovely’ Champions League results
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand was pretty pleased with how Wednesday’s Champions League matches panned out.
Ferdinand’s former side Manchester United made it three wins in a row in all competitions, beating Swiss champions Young Boys.
A first-half brace from Paul Pogba and one from Anthony Martial sealed a 3-0 victory for the Red Devils.
Manchester City on the other hand suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in their Group F opener.
Following the games, BT Sport presenter and ex-England striker Gary Lineker assessed the evening’s results.
It’s a lovely evening isn’t it,
“Interesting football, isn’t it?” Lineker said.
“Going into these games tonight you’ve got Manchester City flying, generally.
“They lose at home to Lyon, Manchester United win away. All of a sudden the world’s got a kind of different shade of colour to it.”
Ferdinand was in the studio for BT and showed his true colours in response to Lineker.
“It’s a lovely evening isn’t it,” Ferdinand jested.
The former centre-back’s comment caused laughter amongst Lineker and another two ex-United players, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves.
“Careful,” Lineker jokingly replied.
But Ferdinand then changed his tune, claiming he wants all Premier League sides to succeed in the Champions League.
“What we want at the end of the day, we want the English teams to go through,” he said.
“I think Man City will be alright in that group, they’ll go through. Sometimes you need a little bit of a jolt.”
Lineker believes there would have been a different reaction if City won and United had lost.
“If the results were the other way around, you’d be start talking about a crisis at Manchester United again," the Match of the Day host added.
"City have obviously been very dominant so they’ll be no talk.
"They’ll just say ‘it’s a one off’, they just had a bad night."
