Liverpool news: Two stars singled out during PSG clash - ‘That is unbelievable’
LIVERPOOL full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were singled out for praise during tonight’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Both Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have been in fine form for Liverpool in the Premier League so far this season.
And it was clear from the early stages of tonight’s match they would cause issues for Ligue 1 giants PSG.
Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead before half time before Thomas Meunier pulled one back for the visitors.
And BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand said Liverpool were exploiting PSG wingers Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, who were not keen on tracking back.
They get so much space and this delivery from Robertson to Sturridge is unbelievable
“The full-backs, the wide areas are where they’re really penetrating,” Ferdinand said.
“Especially with the Paris Saint-Germain wide players not wanting to defend, not having to defend.
“Them areas are just key for Liverpool and they’re exploiting that.”
Robertson claimed the assist for Daniel Sturridge’s opening goal at Anfield with a fine cross from the left.
And both he and Alexander-Arnold impressed former Liverpool Champions League winner John Arne Riise.
“Both full-backs have been brilliant,” Riise said.
“They get the cross in, there’s so much space because Mbappe and Neymar are never going back.
“They get so much space and this delivery from Robertson to Sturridge is unbelievable.”
Michael Owen agreed with Riise and said Robertson’s cross was inch-perfect for Sturridge.
“Robertson’s ball is unbelievable,” Owen said.
“Hitting a moving ball like that from that angle isn’t easy.
“There he (Sturridge) hasn’t tried to do much other than keep it down.
“There’s so much pace on the cross it’s just going to fly past the goalkeeper.”
