Liverpool vs PSG: Reds can exploit this key weakness in Champions League clash - pundit
LIVERPOOL can beat PSG in the Champions League this evening due to the French side’s leaky defence, Chris Sutton claims.
Chris Sutton: Liverpool will defeat PSG in the Champions League
The Reds face Ligue 1 champions PSG at Anfield tonight as Jurgen Klopp’s men kick off their Champions League campaign.
Liverpool reached the final last season, however, Real Madrid ran out 3-1 winners in Kiev thanks to Loris Karius’ horror show.
And BT Sport pundit Sutton reckons the Reds can beat PSG this evening, claiming the French side aren’t up to scratch defensively to win the Champions League.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think you’ve got one team who are proper Champions League contenders and that’s Liverpool.
I don’t think PSG can win the Champions League because defensively, every season, they get found out
“I don’t think PSG can win the Champions League because defensively, every season, they get found out.
“They haven’t made great changes in the summer in terms of their defensive unit.
“They’ve brought the lad in from Schalke [Thilo Kehrer], who’s not playing regularly.
“PSG are brilliant going forward but they don’t have the defence to win the Champions League and I believe Liverpool do.”
Liverpool star Roberto Firmino is a major doubt to face PSG at Anfield tonight after the Brazil international picked up an eye injury against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds striker was accidentally poked in the eye by Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.
Firmino went to hospital, however, he was discharged with an eye abrasion.
Speaking ahead of the PSG clash, Liverpool boss Klopp revealed he’s unsure whether Firmino will play.
He said: “He is much better.
“We all saw the picture and we were massively worried. But all these worries are away so he will be fine.
“If he will be fine, I don’t know in the moment.
“We are obviously in close contact with him and it improved already – but in this moment I can’t say if he will be available.”
