Arsenal news: Premier League star gives honest verdict on Mesut Ozil
ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil is a world-class player and would be a valuable asset for any team.
That is the opinion of Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who appeared on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme today.
Mesut Ozil has often divided opinion at Arsenal, with many claiming the German does not perform against the top sides in the Premier League.
His performances in the early stages of this season have once again seen him vilified by pundits and ex-players.
But Begovic has revealed he has always recognised Ozil’s talents above his weaknesses.
I think he’s been a world-class player, a very good servant to Arsenal
And he believes the 29-year-old’s unselfishness is key for Arsenal’s success.
“I’ve always been a big fan,” Begovic said.
“I just think he’s a world-class player.
“A very unselfish player, a lot of assists, does a lot of good work for the team.
“So I think he’s been a world-class player, a very good servant to Arsenal.
“Played obviously at Real Madrid, many games for Germany, won a lot of trophies.
“So I think he’s just a world-class player.
“I think he has his strengths. Obviously he likes the attacking side of the game more.
“But like I said he’s such a valuable asset to any team.
“I think any team would a player like him in their squad.”
Ozil made his 200th Arsenal appearance on Saturday in the 2-1 Premier League win at Newcastle.
He scored the Gunners' second goal on what was his first ever appearance at St James' Park.
Arsenal have now won their last three games under Unai Emery.
