West Ham news: David Moyes reveals 'disappointment' over Manuel Pellegrini decision
DAVID MOYES has revealed his disappointment at being replaced by Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham this summer.
The Scot replaced Slaven Bilic towards the start of last season, tasked with keeping the Hammers in the Premier League.
Not all fans in east London were happy at Moyes' appointment or subsequent style of play at the London Stadium.
But the former Manchester United boss did succeed in keeping West Ham in the top flight, with the club beating the drop by nine points.
And Moyes admits he thought he had done enough to keep himself in a job.
That’s why I was disappointed not to be offered the opportunity to stay
“I have to say we couldn’t have done a better job," he told the Sun.
“That’s why I was disappointed not to be offered the opportunity to stay.
"I’d taken it to the end of the season to see how I did and how the owners felt.
“From where they were to get them living and breathing again, was probably as successful a season as I could have had.
“By the end I’d decided I wanted to stay if the owners provided me with the funds to strengthen the squad. It disappointed me I didn’t at least get a chance to talk about it.
“If we’d have had the chance to spend I think we’d have got a successful team.
“The biggest strengthening had to be at the back.
"They needed reinforcements but every manager has their own thoughts.”
Pellegrini replaced Moyes at the Hammers over the summer but is struggling at present.
The Chilean is yet to pick up any points since arriving at West Ham, with the club bottom of the league after four games.
A defeat away to Everton today would ramp up the pressure on the former Premier League winner who is in desperate need of win.
