Rangers vs Dundee: Rangers fans told how to react when Kenny Miller returns to Ibrox
STEVEN GERRARD has urged Rangers’ fans not to jeer Kenny Miller on his return to Ibrox.
Miller’s third spell at the club ended acrimoniously after he was suspended over a dressing room row with Graeme Murty.
The striker won his appeal against a club fine at an SPFL hearing and could pursue Rangers for damages.
Miller will be back in Govan today with his new club Dundee as they visit on league duty.
Gerrard said: “I hope Kenny gets a wonderful reception, he deserves it. Kenny has been a top player. He has been prolific for many years.
He will be desperate to play well and win at Ibrox
“Now that he has signed for Dundee, he will be desperate to play well and win at Ibrox.”
Defender Lee Wallace faced similar sanctions to Miller for his part in the Hampden bust-up, but Gerrard claims the issue hasn’t caused any problems for him.
He said: “I’ve been honest and respectful to Lee since day one and he has always been the same back.
“I’m sure for both players it’s something they didn’t want hanging in the background, they just want to lay football.
“Lee has been working his socks off on the training pitch to get himself fit.
“He has had a minor setback over the last couple of days with a bit of a niggle.”
Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is absent with a calf injury which is also set to rule him out of Thursday’s Europa League group stage opener against Villarreal in Spain.
Gerrard said: “Ryan will be scanned for further assessment.
“He would have been in the starting 11 for sure because of the form he has shown since we walked in the door. He has been tremendous.
“It looks like he’ll be missing for a couple of weeks, although we’re waiting for confirmation.”
Defender Gareth McAuley won’t make his Gers debut today after injuring a calf on Northern Ireland duty, but midfielder Lassana Coulibaly is available after recovering from a thigh strain.
